FAQ
Questions about injury cases
Straight answers to what people ask us first. If yours isn't here, call and ask.
Getting started
Do I need a lawyer for an injury claim?
Not always. If your injuries were minor and healed fast, you may be able to settle on your own. We'll tell you if we think that's the case.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Whatever you have: the crash or incident report, photos, insurance letters, medical bills and your own insurance card. It's fine if you have none of it yet.
Can you meet me somewhere other than the office?
Yes. We can meet at the hospital, at your home or by phone. Saturday mornings are open by appointment.
Fees and costs
How much does it cost?
The first meeting is free. Injury cases are on a contingency fee, so you pay no attorney fee unless we recover money. Case costs are separate, and your written agreement explains them.
What are case costs?
Money spent to move the case: filing fees, medical records, expert reviews, depositions. We list them on your settlement statement.
Your case
The insurance adjuster wants a recorded statement. Should I give one?
Talk to us first. You don't have to give the other side's insurer a recorded statement, and what you say can be used to lower your claim.
What is my case worth?
It depends on your injuries, your bills, lost work, how fault is shared and the insurance available. We'll give you a range once we've seen the records, and explain how we got there.
How long do I have to file?
There are legal deadlines, and they vary with the kind of case and who caused it. Some are short. Call us early so a deadline doesn't decide your case.
Can you help if the injury also happened at work?
Yes. Our workers' compensation group is in the same office, and we coordinate the two claims.
Still have a question?
Call the office, or send a few lines and we'll call you back.
